Students Get Out the Vote with "Election Extravaganza" Oct. 1

A coalition of Emory University student groups are making a massive "get out the vote" push before the Oct. 6 voter registration deadline in Georgia hits next week. The "Election Extravaganza" will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 1, on Asbury Circle by the Dobbs University Center (605 Asbury Circle), Emory.

The event will include Students for John McCain and Students for Barack Obama, as well as the Student Government Association, the Emory College Council, the Office of Multicultural Programs and a dozen other groups who will provide information on the campaigns and election issues.

About 1,000 students have been registered so far through various outreach efforts on campus, says Brett Henson, president of the Emory chapter of Students for Barack Obama, and co-president of the Collegiate Society of America, a nonpartisan political debate organization that discusses current issues.
