Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Georgia (BCBSGA) has designated Emory University Orthopaedics and Spine Hospital (EUOSH) as a Blue Distinction Center for both Knee and Hip Replacement and Spine Surgery.

According to Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Georgia, Blue Distinction Centers demonstrate their commitment to quality care, resulting in better overall outcomes for knee and hip replacement surgery and spine surgery patients. Emory University Orthopaedics and Spine Hospital meets evidence-based clinical criteria, developed in collaboration with expert physicians' and medical organizations, and is subject to periodic re-evaluation as criteria continue to evolve for knee and hip replacement and spine surgery procedures. These facilities have also demonstrated experience in offering comprehensive inpatient knee and hip replacement services, including total knee replacement and total hip replacement.

"When Emory Healthcare opened this hospital less than two years ago, we made a promise and commitment to our patients -- to provide a quality experience defined by impeccable clinical outcomes, patient safety and patient service. These designations highlighting our spine surgery program and knee and hip replacement procedures is certainly proof that our outstanding physicians, nurses and staff continue to deliver on that promise," says John T. Fox, Emory Healthcare president and CEO.

"Our physicians and staff are squarely focused on the unique needs of the orthopaedic surgery patient population and work in tandem with physicians throughout Emory's network to collaborate on diagnosis and treatment of our patients, while at the same time mentoring future orthopaedists and orthopaedic surgeons," says James R. Roberson, MD, chair of the Department of Orthopaedics and professor of orthopaedic surgery, Emory University School of Medicine. "I am very proud of this team's many accomplishments and dedication to providing the very best orthopaedic treatment options and family-centered care." "Blue Distinction will assist members in choosing a facility or physician that best meets their medical needs," says Bob McCormack, MD, medical director, BCBSGA. "This program provides easy access to evidence-based health information about physicians and institutions that meet clinically-validated, quality standards, and deliver better overall outcomes in patient care - giving members the confidence needed to make important decisions surrounding their health."
