Emory Healthcare, Georgia Tech Athletics Form Multi-Year Partnership
Through a new multi-year partnership agreement between Emory Healthcare and Georgia Tech Athletics, Emory Healthcare will become the “Official Healthcare System” for all Yellow Jacket sports, it was announced today. The partnership builds on and expands the existing 11-year relationship between the Emory Sports Medicine Center and Georgia Tech Athletics.
The agreement with Georgia Tech and ISP Sports, the exclusive multimedia rights holder for Tech Athletics, will provide Emory Healthcare with extensive media exposure, including radio and television sponsorships, highly visible signage in Tech’s three major campus venues (Bobby Dodd Stadium, Alexander Memorial Coliseum and Russ Chandler Stadium), and prominent advertising in Yellow Jacket sports publications and on the school’s official athletics website (RamblinWreck.com).
“The Emory Healthcare team is proud to join Georgia Tech as official healthcare system,” says John Fox, Emory Healthcare President and CEO. “Partnering so closely with Georgia Tech and the Ramblin’ Wreck athletes is an exciting opportunity to support one of the nation’s premier collegiate athletics programs in its continual quest for conference and national championships across a wide array of sports, including football, basketball and baseball. It is also a tremendous opportunity to support our Atlanta neighbor, the Georgia Institute of Technology, with whom we share many scientific and medical research projects and initiatives.”
John W. Xerogeanes, M.D., chief of the Emory Sports Medicine Center, is equally enthusiastic about the new partnership. "Working with athletes participating at the Division One level certainly requires a uniquely equipped team to provide medical care and counsel," says Xerogeanes, who is entering his 11th year as head orthopaedist and team physician for all Georgia Tech athletic teams.
"We have assembled a team of health care professionals at Emory who, when consulted, understand the unique needs of these seasoned athletes. We are prepared for the special challenges associated with their injuries, conditions, and strength and rehabilitation requirements as we work to help improve performance and help get these young men and women back on the field of competition,” he says.
According to Xerogeanes, the Emory partnership with Georgia Tech and ISP brings a new component to a long-standing relationship. "It is really exciting that we can now align our brands with Georgia Tech through a partnership as official health care system. We have been providing outstanding care to these championship caliber athletes for over a decade now, and have established a stellar level of trust and support from the student-athletes themselves, their parents and the university at large," he says.
ISP Vice President Owen Shull, who directs the Georgia Tech Sports Properties division of the company in Atlanta, sees the expanded partnership as a win-win for all concerned. “We have enjoyed working with Emory Healthcare for several years and always have respected their outstanding staff,” Shull says. “We look forward to increasing their great brand to all Tech fans through this agreement.”
