Midterm Elections Focus of Faculty Panel Oct. 28

What the Experts Have to Say About Midterm Elections

Top Emory University experts in political science, law, business, public health and journalism will discuss "President Obama and the Midterm Elections" in an open forum from 4 - 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 28, in Emory Law's Tull Auditorium, 1301 Clifton Road. The event is free and open to the public.

Participating professors include:

  • Alan Abramowitz, Alben W. Barkley Professor of Political Science, and a nationally renowned expert on politics, polling and election forecasting;
  • Dorothy Brown, professor of law and an expert on federal tax policy and critical race theory;
  • Andra Gillespie, assistant professor of political science and editor of "Whose Black Politics? Cases in Post-Racial Black Leadership";
  • Hank Klibanoff, Pulitzer Prize winning journalist and editor, and Emory’s James M. Cox Professor of Journalism;
  • Dan Reiter, professor and chair of political science, and author of the award-winning “How Wars End”;
  • Michael Rich, director of Emory’s Office of University-Community Partnerships and associate professor of political science and environmental studies;
  • Richard Saltman, professor of health policy and management in Emory’s Rollins School of Public Health; and
  • Thomas Smith, assistant professor of finance in Goizueta Business School, and a specialist in labor economics.

The event is sponsored by Emory’s Race and Difference Initiative as part of  "Emory Meets Emory," an ongoing public forum that brings together experts from across the Emory campus to discuss and debate topics of interest. Focusing broadly on issues at the intersection of race and difference, "Emory Meets Emory" seeks to bridge traditional academic and departmental silos, facilitate the open exchange of ideas and bring together people from across the Emory community who share common research interests.
