Emory Mobile Expands Offerings for Visitors, Emory Community
Emory University is unveiling the latest version of Emory Mobile. With the new application, users can:
- View Emory shuttles on their routes in real time,
- Open Emory’s iTunesU presence to view new and top downloaded content,
- Search for friends and make new connections with the alumni directory,
- Get quick access to key emergency phone numbers, and
- Take one of five campus tours.
These enhancements build on the Emory Mobile smartphone apps suite, launched in August 2010, that includes news, maps, athletics, event listings, library catalog, Emory’s YouTube channel and the campus directory.
“Our newest release of Emory Mobile takes advantage of all the capabilities that our licensed product offers to provide students, faculty, alumni and campus visitors with the ability to access significant data sources through their mobile devices,” says Jan Gleason, executive director of University Marketing. “Some of the highlights of this version are five different campus tours for prospective students and visitors, including one for Oxford College, and a link to the campus shuttles and alumni directory.”
The latest version of Emory Mobile became available for iOS devices in the Apple store on Aug. 11. People who have previously downloaded Emory Mobile on their iOS devices have received an update notice to install the new version. Select new features will be extended to BlackBerry and Android versions of the application later in the fall, after Emory’s academic course catalog is added. The original version of Emory Mobile is still available for Blackberry and Android devices.
The university’s Office of Information Technology (OIT) and the Office of Communications and Marketing work with Blackboard Mobile, a division of Blackboard Inc., to offer the app.
