News Article Image

Emory University School of Medicine students are teaming up with the Whiskey Park @ the W Hotel to host a fundraiser on Jan. 29 benefitting earthquake victims in Haiti. The student group, Emory Medishare, is a branch of the national non-profit organization Project Medishare for Haiti, Inc.

Donations for raffle tickets will be taken at the door. Prizes include restaurant gift certificates, hotel stays, a gym membership and more. The students will provide information about ways to help Haiti recover after the worst natural disaster in its recent history.

The event will be held from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Whiskey Park @ the W Hotel Midtown, 188 14th St. NE, Atlanta, Ga. Attendees must be 21 years or older.

All donations will benefit the Project Medishare Haiti Earthquake Relief Fund. Project Medishare has operated in Haiti for more than 15 years and its founders have recently been appointed by President Rene Preval of Haiti to lead the medical relief field sites in and around Port-au-Prince.

Emory Medishare sends student workers to Thomonde in the Central Plateau of Haiti three times each year to help set up clinics in the surrounding villages, train local healthcare workers and assist in the improvement of the healthcare infrastructure. The group was in Haiti in late November and is planning its next trip in April 2010.
