Emory Selects New Anesthesiology Leader
ATLANTA – Laureen L. Hill, MD, MBA, a prominent academic anesthesiologist has been selected to become the chair of anesthesiology for Emory’s School of Medicine and chief of anesthesiology services at Emory Healthcare. Dr. Hill will begin her duties at Emory August 1, 2011.
Currently vice chairman, Department of Anesthesiology and professor of anesthesiology and cardiothoracic surgery at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Hill’s expertise is in critical care medicine, preoperative assessment and intraoperative anesthetic care for patients undergoing cardiac or thoracic surgery and adult patients with congenital heart disease requiring noncardiac surgery.
In addition to her academic appointments, Hill also holds many significant assignments at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. She was instrumental in helping to develop the Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit at Washington University/Barnes-Jewish Hospital and developed and led the Center for Preoperative Assessment and Planning.

Hill will report to Fox and Lawley.
Hill received her medical degree from University of California, Davis, and her MBA from Washington University. She earned her undergraduate degree at California Lutheran University.
Prior to her 11 years at Washington University, where she began as an assistant professor of anesthesiology and CT surgery, Hill was at Stanford University, where she completed her residency and fellowships. She also attained an assistant professorship while at Stanford.
Hill succeeds Dr. James R. Zaidan, MD, MBA, currently chair and professor of anesthesiology and Associate Dean for Graduate Medical Education. He will maintain his Dean’s position and continue to practice anesthesiology.
